Abstract

In this paper we consider the history of occurrence, the terms, the difference between American and English slang. As the title implies, the following questions are analyzed: «What is slang?», «Where and why is it used?», «Is slang the enrichment or clogging of English?». Examples are shown of the use of youth slang, the place of slang vocabulary in youth speech and the influence of foreign languages on youth slang. A short dictionary of youth words and expressions is made. The paper states that slang has an interesting history and meaningful terms. It is specially noted that the same slang words may have totally different meanings depending on the context, age, nationality of the person speaking (an Englishman or an American). The conclusion is made that the admissible sphere of slang use is youth informal. An Internet poll was conducted, according to ambiguous results, the presence of slang shows that language is a dynamic system that constantly lives and develops. Slang is not a harmful language formation that vulgarises oral speech, but an organic and to some extent necessary part of this system. Slang evolves, changes very fast. This is an entity that can easily be formed and disappear. All these changes are made to simplify and understand the language. Slang is a very vibrant and dynamic entity. It is used in various spheres of public life. This is an important part of the language that helps "keep" it «alive»
