The dissertation is devoted to the problem of solving the scientific and technical task concerning the improving of the efficiency of motor transport enterprises by improving the structure of production units, depending on the volume of maintenance and repair of automobiles. The method of determination of the expediency and functioning of production departments for maintenance and repair of automobiles in ATE is developed. It is based on the mathematical model of the estimation of efficiency of production units operation taking into account volumes of executed works. The software of the following technique is worked out. According to the results of experimental research, the dependence of the size of work on maintenance and repair of cars concerning the cost of performed work was obtained. Based on the conducted research, some recommendations were made on the feasibility of creating or operating production units in taxi, freight and bus ATE, depending on the quantity of maintenance and repair works. Economically feasible distances are determined in modern conditions to perform works on maintenance and repair of the cars by cooperation in car service centres.
