Теоретичні засади розвитку української термінології

Abstract

The article draws attention to the theoretical foundations of the development of Ukrainian terminology, which has been evolving for centuries; its development in the historical aspect is highlighted. The ways to improve and organize the terminological system of the Ukrainian language, which is an extremely complex and difficult task, are indicated. Terminology occupies a prominent place in any vocabulary of a developed language due to the fact that it is constantly replenished with new units and is developing intensively; it represents a whole system of concepts of a separate field of knowledge that are related thematically, conceptually and lexically. It is proved that terminological vocabulary is an integral part of the language and its richness. It is emphasized that modern Ukrainian terminology is an important part of the entire lexical system of the language, which contains a number of terminology systems of various fields and serves to solve scientific concepts. The author suggests the need to establish professional terminology commissions at each ministry, agency, and civil service to ensure the correct use and execution of regulatory documents; to introduce special courses in scientific terminology and terminology in higher education institutions; and to revise terminology standards approved earlier. It is also desirable to distinguish between special terminology and professional vocabulary. According to the requirements for this category of lexemes, it was suggested that the term should be unambiguous; closely correlated with a certain concept; stylistically and emotionally neutral; correspond to word-formation models; and by its nature and functions should be generally used. A definition of the term “term” was proposed, namely: “it is a word or phrase that means an object that belongs to science, technology, art; has a definition; is part of the vocabulary of the language; is subject to the grammatical laws of the language and is used in different functional styles”.
