Design patterns play a critical role in object-oriented programming (OOP) by providing reusable solutions to commonly occurring software design problems. Rather than being ready-made code, they represent general principles that guide developers in structuring flexible and maintainable systems. Their application improves code quality, enhances reusability, and supports scalability, making them an essential component of modern software engineering.
