The vethod of investigation of fatigue cracks growth from a smooth surface in steels of portal cranes
The essence of the method of fatigue crack growth research consists in loading beam samples with a one-sided circular cutout by cantilever symmetric bending. The peculiarity of the technique is the tension loading of a smooth surface and the compression of a surface with a cutout. Under such a scheme of cyclic loading, the role of the cutout consists only in the localization of fatigue crack initiation on a smooth surface from the opposite side to the top of the cutout. Its significant radius does not affect the stress state on a smooth surface, which can be calculated by the usual method. Visual observation of a smooth stretched surface makes it possible to follow the stage of crack initiation, and the stage of its growth on the side ones.
