This paper presents a systematic analysis of structural and operational requirements for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) intended for industrial and military applications under contemporary operating conditions. The influence of the operational environment on chassis configuration, power systems, control architecture, and communication subsystems is examined. The mass–energy balance is substantiated as a key design constraint, particularly for military UGVs operating in uncertain and high-risk environments. A distinction is made between life-cycle cost optimization for industrial platforms and mission cost optimization for military systems. The concept of functional survivability under degraded conditions is analyzed, and the feasibility of a heterogeneous military UGV fleet combining reusable (resource-oriented) and attritable platforms is justified. A comparative analysis of structural design approaches is presented. The obtained results may be applied in the development of new robotic platforms and in the modernization of existing systems.
