Energy conservation is a priority of Ukraine`s state policy, which includes modernizing production facilities and implementing energy-saving technologies. Particular attention is paid to high-efficiency new-generation plate heat exchangers (PHEs), whose calculations are based on the principles of hydrodynamics and heat exchange. However, practical experience shows that heat transfer surface area often requires a significant increase (by 20-200%) due to the formation of a fouling layer, which creates additional thermal resistance. Existing data on the thermal resistance of fouling are fragmented, contradictory, and do not account for the specific design of heat exchangers or their operating conditions. This leads to reduced PHE efficiency, increased energy, capital, and operating costs, and in critical cases, equipment failure. Therefore, scientific research aimed at developing theoretical foundations and practical recommendations to minimize the negative impact of fouling on heat exchanger performance is crucial, ensuring the preservation of their design characteristics and improving reliability and efficiency.
