Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the ZigBee communication protocol and its application in smart homes and industrial automated control. It is determined that ZigBee is an effective solution due to its low energy consumption, reliability and scalability. Examples of the practical use of ZigBee for the implementation of smart homes and process optimisation in industrial plants are presented. In addition, various ZigBee network topologies, such as tree, star and mesh, are discussed and their advantages and disadvantages analysed. The paper also discusses in detail the throughput and end-to-end delay at the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer in the context of a ZigBee network. The conclusions of the study will help to cope with the challenges associated with the use of ZigBee in various IoT systems.
