Abstract

Recent scientific studies indicate that the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is fundamentally transforming the landscape of education across various disciplines, including mathematics. This paper aims to provide a concise overview of AI usage in the study of higher mathematics among students in technical institutions of higher education. Notable advantages of employing AI in teaching higher mathematics to non-mathematics majors include personalized learning, increased accessibility, automated assessment, provision of interactive exercises and simulation opportunities, automated error detection and correction, and the creation of novel teaching methods. Additionally, AI demonstrates the ability to generate code for solving typical higher mathematics problems using computer algebra systems like Maple and Maxima. However, it is noted that AI-generated solutions may require expert-level knowledge of the specific computer algebra system for validation. While AI can provide accurate esponses to a wide range of questions in a typical engineering mathematics curriculum, it may occasionally produce erroneous results for seemingly straightforward queries. In conclusion, we are only at the beginning stages of exploring effective applications f AI in higher mathematics education for students in technical institutions, with much potential yet to be realized.
