Abstract

The analyses of the current state of economic development in the countries of the European is proposed. It was determined that the EU economy has not yet acquired the stability to recover the recession of 2020 and received new challenges due to the military actions in Ukraine. It was confirmed by high inflation rates, a decline in production and lowered expectations for GDP growth rates. The war makes it impossible to get out of the pandemic crises, which is not yet complete. Despite the decline in general economic indicators, EU countries are increasing spending on innovation, research and development, as scientific and technological transformations are becoming a driver of economic recovery. The subject of the study is the economic, scientific and technological processes in the EU countries, their scope, interrelationship and prospects for the activation of innovative activities in the European . The purpose of the study is to determine the role of scientific, technological and innovative determinants of the economic development in the countries of the European . Method (methodology) of the study. A complex of general scientific and special methods was used in the research process: the historical-logical method to determine the historical prerequisites of the current state of economic development of the EU countries; method of systemic analysis to outline the consequences of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine on the EU economy; the method of comparison to suggest the analysis of the current state of scientific, technological and economic development of the EU; graphic method for visual illustration of the analysis and other methods. The results. Investments and active growth of innovative activity can stimulate the stability of the economic system and help in its recovery. It is scientific, technological and innovative transformations that become the driver of economic recovery. European policy in the field of research and innovation should be aimed at different types of innovation according to territorial specificity in terms of peripherality and economic structure. Transformation of society and economy can be realized through innovation based on regionalization and differentiation of needs.
