Abstract

The proposed succesive-approximation analog-to-digital converter contains a number of stages. Each of the stages contains an input bus, a switching unit, a reference analog signal source, a quantizer, a single-bit analog-to-digital converter, an arithmetic unit, and an analog signal summing unit. The first input of the switching unit is connected to the input bus, the second input is connected to the reference analog signal source, and the output is connected to the input of the quantizer. The input of the single-bit analog-to-digital converter is connected to the output of the quantizer, and the output is connected to the input of the arithmetic unit and the second input of the analog signal summing unit. The proposed converter allows the conversion nonlinearity error to be decreased by decreasing static errors of the converter analog units by using the converter self-calibration procedure.
