Abstract

The proposed device for monitoring the state of a fiber cable contains an optical cycle-repeat reflectometer, a remote control unit, an optical multiplexer, an optical demultiplexer, and an attenuator. The cycle-repeat reflectometer contains a laser diode, an avalanche photodiode, an analog-to-digital converter, a storage unit, and a directional coupler. The output of the remote control unit is connected to the control input of the reflectometer. One end of the tested fiber cable would be connected to the output of the multiplexer, and the other end would be connected to the attenuator via the demultiplexer.
