This paper discusses the principle of operation and shortcomings of the synchronization system that has been developed and tested for generator operation in a local network, as well as the corresponding synchronization limitations, which play a key role in maintaining reliable operation of power plant equipment and increasing the stability of the power system. The number of cases of unsynchronized start-ups is growing, leading to damage to generators and transformers connected to them. In practice, synchronization is often accompanied by significant difficulties, which can lead to technical problems and reduced reliability of the power system.
