This paper explores approaches to forecasting parking occupancy in urban areas using SARIMAX and LSTM models. The SARIMAX model is based on classical time series analysis with seasonal components and external regressors, while LSTM belongs to deep learning architectures capable of capturing complex dependencies in sequential data. The effectiveness of both models is evaluated using real-world data from parking facilities in Amsterdam. Results show that SARIMAX performs well for long-term forecasting, whereas LSTM is more suitable for short-term, real-time prediction tasks. These findings can be applied to optimize parking infrastructure and implement decision support systems in smart cities.
