Developing digital language competence as a factor of competitiveness of future master`s degree holders in power engineering in the digital economy

Abstract

У цьому розділі досліджено формування цифрової мовної компетентності як ключового чинника підвищення конкурентоспроможності студентів магістерського рівня в галузі електроенергетики. Тим самим розділ прагне зробити внесок у ширший дискурс про роль цифровізації у вищій освіті та, зокрема, про те, як мовна підготовка має еволюціонувати, щоб відповідати викликам Індустрії 4.0 та подальшого розвитку. Акцент зроблено на узгодженні викладання англійської мови за професійним спрямуванням (ESP) із цифровими освітніми технологіями, що підтримують професійне зростання студентів і готовність до реальних комунікативних ситуацій у технічних сферах. У цьому розділі розглянуто багатогранну роль англійської мови за професійним спрямуванням (ESP) у контексті цифрової трансформації, підкреслено, як мовна компетентність перетинається з технологічною вправністю, формуючи сучасного фахівця-інженера. Завдяки використанню цифрових інструментів, таких як Moodle, письмові помічники на основі ШІ, перекладацькі системи, технічні глосарії, симуляції та завдання на основі кейсів, студенти здобувають не лише мовну компетентність, а й цінні навички цифрової комунікації, розв'язання проблем та автономного навчання.This chapter explores the formation of digital language competence as a key factor in enhancing the competitiveness of master`s level students in the field of power engineering. In doing so, it seeks to contribute to the broader discourse on the role of digitalisation in higher education and, more specifically, on how linguistic preparation must evolve to meet the challenges of Industry 4.0 and beyond. The emphasis is placed on aligning the teaching of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) with digital educational technologies that support students` professional growth and readiness for real-world communicative situations in technical fields. This chapter has examined the multifaceted role of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) within the context of digital transformation, highlighting how language competence intersects with technological fluency to shape the modern engineering professional. Through the use of digital tools such as Moodle, AI-based writing assistants, translation engines, technical glossaries, simulations, and case-based tasks, students gain not only linguistic proficiency but also valuable skills in digital communication, problem-solving, and autonomous learning.
