Штучні водно-болотні угіддя як засіб відновлення екологічної безпеки територій, порушених внаслідок воєнних дій

Abstract

This article substantiates the feasibility of using constructed wetlands (CWs) as a naturebased and cost-effective method for the bioremediation of environments devastated by hostilities in Ukraine. It examines the mechanisms for remediating multi-component pollution (involving heavy metals, explosive residues, and petroleum products) through phytoextraction, phytodegradation, and rhizofiltration. The study demonstrates that subsurface-flow constructed wetlands – which function as biogeochemical barriers within river basins – are the most suitable option given Ukraine's climatic and sanitary conditions. Furthermore, it argues for the necessity of integrating nature-based technologies into national post-war recovery programs to ensure environmental safety and compliance with European standards.
