Abstract

The paper investigates the problem of user experience fragmentation in operating systems due to the parallel functioning of the classic "Control Panel" and the modern "Settings" application. Based on a hypothetical empirical study, the impact of hybrid interfaces on cognitive load and the level of trust of users with different levels of technical expertise is analyzed. It is established that the violation of the consistency heuristic reduces the efficiency of performing complex configuration tasks, destroying users' mental models. Conceptual approaches to the unification of the system settings architecture are proposed.
