The report is devoted to the coverage of the political activity of one of the greatest persons of the nineteenth century - Taras Grigorievich Shevchenko. The main aspects of Kobzar's belonging to the Cyril and Methodius Society are analyzed. It is established that Taras Grigorievich's views on the said society were different from those of its members and on the basis of the revealed facts it is noted that Kobzar's position on the society's activity is characterized as radical.
