models. It is shown that the lipid bilayer can be interpreted as a capacitive element, whereas ion channels act as controlled conductances. The possibilities of conductance-based, kinetic, hybrid, and electrodiffusion models for analyzing bioelectrical processes are summarized, and their role in membrane potential modeling is assessed.
