The sign of the time for the world linguistics is the development of fields which overlap with other spheres of scientific knowledge forming new areas of research such as psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, ethnolinguistics, linguistic philosophy, cognitive linguistics, linguistic pragmatics, linguistic and cultural studies, hermeneutics. It is rather difficult, moreover, it hardly makes any sense to limit a research to one of these areas if a researcher relies on the linguistic paradigm employing methods of different fields. The decisive factor here is a new complex of approaches to the analysis of many conventional ideas, which ensures new resources of knowledge. Our focus is on the modelling the character of the narrator in literary texts of contemporary American Indian writers. The findings indicate the way of literary character analysis multimodal perspective. We study the modelling of the narrator`s character through the prism of cultural linguistic analysis, ethnolinguistic analysis and cognitive linguistic analysis, revealing different intertextual elements, which are embodied into the structure of the text by the narrator. The paper suggests such types of the narrators as narrator-mask, narrator-sketcher and narrator-ornamentalist. Based on the analyses of the language of each of the narrators, the paper studies the verbal means which actualize the ethnocultural identity of each of the narrators and their role in producing the ethnocultural canvas of the text.
