This study explores the integration and effectiveness of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing English language learning within tertiary education establishments. The primary focus is on how AI-driven adaptive learning systems and natural language processing (NLP) tools can personalize and optimize the learning experience, thereby improving language proficiency and communicative competence among learners. The research utilizes a combination of quantitative and qualitative methodologies to assess the impact of these technologies on language acquisition rates and practical communication skills. Significant findings indicate that AI-enhanced adaptive learning platforms can accelerate language learning significantly more than traditional methods by tailoring content to meet individual learner needs. Furthermore, NLP-driven conversational agents have been shown to effectively foster real-world communicative abilities, enhancing both fluency and cultural understanding. The study also addresses critical ethical and accessibility considerations, emphasizing the need for robust privacy measures, unbiased algorithms, and equitable access to technology. The implications of this research are profound, suggesting that AI has the potential to transform language education by making it more personalized, engaging, and inclusive. However, the study highlights the necessity of ongoing research into the long-term effects of AI integration and the development of ethical frameworks to guide its use in educational settings.
